The Solo Developer Story

Stenote started as a personal itch I needed to scratch. As someone who takes a lot of meetings and interviews, I was constantly struggling to keep track of all the important details, action items, and insights buried in hours of recorded conversations.

So I decided to build something better. What started as a side project quickly grew into a full-featured AI-powered transcription platform that I'm genuinely proud of.

I'm a solo developer, which means I handle everything from the initial concept and design, to coding the mobile app, building the backend infrastructure, managing the AI integrations, and even responding to support emails (yes, that's actually me you're talking to!).

The Tech Behind the Curtain

Stenote is a pretty complex system under the hood! It includes:

React Native app for iOS and Android with real-time transcription
Firebase backend for authentication, database, and file storage
Cloud Run microservices for AI processing and transcription
NextJS web app for the dashboard and analytics you're using right now
AI integrations with OpenAI, Deepgram, and AssemblyAI

It's been a wild journey building and maintaining all of this solo, but it's also incredibly rewarding to see people getting real value from something I created.

Why the Pricing is What It Is

I get asked about this a lot, so I want to be transparent: the AI processing costs are genuinely expensive. Every minute of audio you transcribe costs me real money for:

High-quality speech-to-text processing
AI analysis and summarization
Cloud hosting and storage
Bandwidth for real-time streaming

As a solo developer, I don't have the luxury of massive scale to negotiate better rates (yet!). But I'm constantly working to optimize costs and pass those savings on to users. The more people who use Stenote, the better deals I can get on processing power.

What's Next?

I'm constantly working on new features and improvements. Some things on my roadmap include:

Better multi-language support
More export formats and integrations
Enhanced AI analysis capabilities
Improved real-time collaboration features
More customizable summary formats
